A New Name, a Clearer Mission
A roadmap of what’s coming, what I’m writing, and what you’ll take away from this evolving newsletter.
Hello fellow engineers and learners,
After much thought and inspiration from books and other writers, I'm excited to announce a new direction for this newsletter.
Why a New Direction?
Discoverability
When I started “The EggPuff Engineer” the name felt right, it was nostalgic, quirky, and memorable. However, I’ve realized it has a practical limitation like chicken-and-egg problem. it’s hard for new readers to find through search. Discoverability is key for growth, and a name that clearly signals the content helps. While content is king, people need to find it first.
This applies to traditional search engines (SEO) and new AI-powered ones (GEO). A more relevant name will help readers find what they’re looking for.
Drive
I also need a personal push. I want to write about topics that genuinely interest me, using my expertise as if I'm my own main audience. This personal drive helps me write consistently, even when there is less engagement. I believe that what excites me will also resonate with like-minded people.
This approach creates a “flywheel” effect: by creating content I’m passionate about and sharing my learning, I build self-reinforcing momentum. To make this flywheel work, the newsletter needs a mission that truly reflects my interests.
2025/26 Focus Areas: Exploring AI as an Engineer
Here are the main topics I’ll be exploring, my personal roadmap for learning, writing and building in AI:
The Future Language: AI Language?
In an era of coding agents, is learning languages like Rust or Go still relevant? Yes, even more so. We'll explore how AI is optimized at its core, making languages like Rust critical. I have been exploring Rust for the past year and find it fascinating. I would say it's one of the best languages for engineers to build things rightly.
While Python drives AI now, Abstraction alone can’t sustain the future of AI. Underlying resource optimization, speed, and infrastructure are other key factors that need to be revisited and many of them are rewritten in Rust.
Rust will likely play a key role in future AI development. However, it's also possible that a new language will evolve, or that AI itself will begin suggesting new forms of language for optimal interaction.
Open Source AI
Back in the Windows 98 and Red Hat Linux days, while most were in college just learning how to operate an OS, a few of my friends and I went deeper and fluent in reformatting systems, setting up dual-boot partitions, and even decompiling .dll and Flash files.
Using AI tools today gives me a similar feeling, except this time, I’m more like my friends were back then, still catching up.
While abstraction layers and packaged solutions are evolving rapidly, I believe there’s deep value in understanding what’s happening under the hood. Closed-source models limit this understanding.
My focus will be on public and open-source models. I have a deep appreciation for the open-source community with incredible initiatives, tools, and models that are making AI more accessible and affordable for everyone. I will be sharing insights, explaining complex concepts, and providing implementation details on how these innovations can be applied across various fields.
Software Agenting
Software engineering is undergoing a fundamental shift.I’d describe it as
Software Engineering + AI = Software Agenting
AI is helping engineers build new software. I'll share product-based learning experiences, solving real-world problems by building applications using Agent Frameworks, including code, tools, best practices, and videos (to finally break my shyness and get it done!).
My Journey into Physical AI
I'm fascinated by Robotics AI, a field with many unsolved problem, especially at the software layer.
As a software engineer without a background in mechanical or electronics engineering, I'm exploring the software and tools that power robotics, starting with platforms like ROS2. I'll share my learning journey, resources, and robotics projects I plan to build with my son. If you're on a similar path, this is for you.
Engineer’s Playbook
One thing I’m committed to keeping is my philosophical and mentoring mindset.
I’ll continue as The EggPuff Engineer, my virtual identity. This space will be dedicated to philosophical engineering, sharing raw reflections from my journey: lessons, missteps, and shaping moments. We’ll explore how to grow in engineering with integrity, staying true to your principles rather than just following the standard templates.
Housekeeping: "Artifacts" is now Monthly
The "Artifacts" you know is evolving into a monthly newsletter. It will include:
A short summary of the month's deep-dive posts.
A collection of interesting engineering projects and AI tools I've found.
Recommended reads.
Thank you for being here and for being part of this community.
The EggPuff Engineer
Great and keep going.
Thank you !
